Analysis of Common Problems of Brake Pads

2022-08-30
Question: why does jitter occur during braking?
answer:
1. This is often caused by the deformation of the brake pads or brake discs. It is related to material, processing accuracy and thermal deformation in use, including: thickness difference of brake disc, roundness of brake drum, uneven wear, thermal deformation and hot spots.
2. The vibration frequency generated by the brake pad during braking will resonate with the suspension system.
3. The friction coefficient of the brake pad is unstable and high.
Question: how does the friction coefficient affect braking?
answer:
Too high or too low friction coefficient will affect the braking performance of the vehicle. Especially when the car needs emergency braking in high-speed driving, the brake will be insensitive if the friction coefficient is too low; If the friction coefficient is too high, it will lead to locking, causing the vehicle to swing, slip and overturn, posing a serious threat to driving safety.
Question: what is the relationship between the service life of the brake pad and the hardness? What are the influencing factors?

answer:
1. There is no certain relationship between brake pad life and surface hardness. When the surface hardness is high, the actual contact area between the brake pad and the brake disc is small, which often affects the service life more.

2. The factors that affect the service life of brake pads include hardness, strength, wear resistance of friction materials and so on.

Question: what is the effect of wading on braking?
answer:
When the wheel is immersed in water, a water film will be formed between the brake pad and the brake disc / drum, thus reducing the friction force, and the water in the brake drum is not easy to escape.
For disc brakes, this kind of brake failure is better. Because the brake pad area of the disc brake system is very small, and the periphery of the disc is exposed to the outside, no water drops can be left. In this way, due to the centrifugal force when the wheel rotates, the water droplets on the disc will be lost automatically, without affecting the function of the brake system.
For drum brake, step on the brake while walking after leaving the water, that is, step on the accelerator with your right foot and the brake with your left foot. If you step on it for several times, the water drops between the brake pad and the brake drum will be wiped off. At the same time, the heat generated by friction will dry it, so that the brake will quickly restore its original sensitivity.
Question: why does the new brake pad fail to stop after being installed?
answer:
Possible reasons are as follows:
1. The brake installation does not meet the requirements.
2. The surface of the brake disc is contaminated and not cleaned.
3. Brake pipeline fault or insufficient brake fluid.
4. The exhaust in the hydraulic cylinder is not complete.
5. The brake disc is excessively worn and the surface is uneven, which causes the brake pad and the disc to not fit well.
6. The brake disc is unqualified.

Question: why does brake drag occur?
answer:
Possible reasons are as follows:
1. Brake return spring fails.
2. The clearance between the brake pad and the brake disc is improper or the assembly dimension is too tight.
3. The thermal expansion performance of the brake pad is unqualified.
4. The hand brake does not return well.
Question: why does the brake smoke?
answer:

Possible reasons are as follows:
About 20% of the organic matter in the brake pad will decompose and smoke when the temperature is too high, and form oily substances on the surface of the brake pad, affecting the braking effect.
1. Brake temperature reason. Downhill and frequent braking will cause excessive temperature and smoke.
2. The content of organic matter in the brake formula is unqualified or the manufacturing process is unstable.
